It's worth a try

There's an online petition against the Prime Ministers plans for National ID cards on the Prime Ministers Office's web site.

I suppose it doesn't hurt to try.

I was going to whinge about there not being one for the road pricing but there is and it's even more popular than the one about id cards.

SIGN IT!!!!!!!!!

I don't quite understand what your objection is to I.D.cards.
Am I right in thinking you all carry them?
I would have thought that would have made your job a little easier. When you arrest someone you will know who they are, won't you? They can not lie and give you a false name and address.
I objected to having cameras following me everywhere, and in fact I still do.But I don't mind carrying a card...we have gone to far now to stop Big Brother.

I for one don't object to them on the grounds of 'civil liberties' or any of that crap.

I do think that a national id card would be a useful thing.

Just not in its current proposed state - it'll cost too much and do far more than is needed.

All you need on an ID card is:

ID Card Number (A.K.A Primary Key)
Full Name
Date of Birth
Blood Type
Photo
Biometric Data

Anything more than that is wholly unnecessary.

The Police, NHS etc can link the above data to the data held on their own databases and therefore have access to all the data they need.

Likewise the local offy only needs to confirm that you are the person on the card and are therefore old enough to buy alcohol. They don't need to know where you live.

So any further personal information is not needed and serves only to benefit the companies that the government is wanting to sell it to.

Whatsmore I have major concerns about who is going to put my personal information on the database in the first place.

It'll most likely be taken care of by a big outsourcing company who will then sub-contract it to a small outsourcing company who will then sub-contract it further to either a recruitment agency or a company overseas.

I find it highly unlikely that they will perform the adequate checks to ensure that the data isn't stolen/copied at the bottom of the chain.

I'd much rather spend the money on Trident as that's something we need but won't use rather than something we'll use but don't need.
